Biography
Welcome to Imre Czomba's web site.
Composer Imre Czomba was born in the Hungarian industrial city of Miskolc, where he started his musical studies. From 1993 he becomes a prominent figure on the Hungarian music scene, first as a concert keyboard and piano-player, then as an orchestrater and composer.
While movie-soundtracks influence his musical world the most, folk music of different cultures also inspire his symphonic compositions. Imre collects folk instruments from all over the world and uses them frequently in his music.
This diversity can be herd throughout his works.
In 1994 he joins the Rock - theater Madacs as a keyboard-player, and tours Western-Europe.
He also performs on TV and at the biggest sport arenas of Budapest. These
concerts give him the chance to collaborate with some of Hungary’s best known
singers, Zoran, Gabor Presser, Attila Kaszas, Ilona Tokody, Andras Kern,
and Peter Gerendas who invites him to join his band after the two
become friends.
At an early stage in his carrier Imre is touched by blues, which can be clearly heard in his piano playing. He joins several blues bands, like the one of Adam Torok, and they perform with Billy Cobhen. As a side project he performs with the Palermo Boogie Gang, and he has a chance to perform with B. B. King and Robben Ford.
Between 1999 and 2000 he works with the actress, Eniko Eszenyi on her album and theatrical play, called E-tango. He fell in love with theater, and composes music for several successful plays.
He gets addicted to symphony for good, when he is asked to write music for Merlin Theatre’s Deathtrap.
In 2002 Imre was invited to write songs for Sony-BMG artist Zsuzsa Cserhati.
The same year he meets choreographer Sandor Roman with whom Imre develops the unique harmony of dance and music for “ExperiDance”. The dance group is committed to the heritage of Hungarian folk dance. Imre successfully composed an outstanding music repertoire that is built on the motives of Hungarian folk music but breaks with all of its forms known before. This new tone becomes a romantic and grandiose world-music.
In the upcoming years several plays are put on stage from the cooperation with the dance group: Revans in 2003, Steel in 2005, and Gypsies of Nagyida in 2006. Imre also takes part in the production of a TV-series by ExperiDance about the birth of dance, called The Legend of Dance.
These stage-shows are regularly played on the main stages of Budapest (the National Theater, the Palace of Modern Arts, and the National Dance Theatre) and in bigger cities countrywide as guest-performances. In Italy Steel is performed as a joint performance with the Bolzan Urban Theatre while Revans gets great reviews in Finland.
Since 2003, Imre works with a popular band NOX as a composer, keyboard player, and band leader. As a result of their extensive touring, the albums of NOX are selling very well and topping every chart in Hungary. They received several gold, platinum and double platinum records. They also win the Band of the Year award at VIVA COMET and MAHASZ ceremony in 2005.” Shining” becomes the Album of the year in 2006.
The same year Imre gets the chance to compose the official song of the European Swimming Championship. Sport lovers all over the continent get to know the song played by NOX. The song Manbird is recorded on NOX’s next album that becomes platinum on the day of the launch. It is a double platinum since than.
Eniko Eszenyi invites Imre to compose the music of a play written from the Danish dogma movie "FESTEN". After the sold out premier in the Pesti Theater, the music receives positive reviews.
Imre composes music for the inauguration of a monument built for the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution in 1956, and for the movie In Honor of the Heros of Freedom.
